    Student theatre of Tambov State University "Ivan-da-Marya" was founded in 1993 and in 1998 it received the rank of Public Theatre.
   The Theatre consists of 3 groups: vocal, dancing and orchestral groups. Each group can perform separately from another.

   Tambov folklore is a bright example of Southern Russian traditional culture. The main aim of the theatre - is to learn Folk traditions and to make them popular.

    The Theatre shows a life of common Southern Russian peasant. The materials of expeditions of the students are used in this work. The Folk plays are based on dissertations, museum and archive funds. As a result, these plays become a real encyclopedia of peasants mode of life, because the audience of our plays have an opportunity to see authentic clothes, towels, table-clothes, the dishes, musical instruments, original speech (pronunciation), traditional instrumental, vocal and dancing culture.     The repertoire of the theatre includes the following:

1) Folk plays: "Tambov marriage", "Russian Christmas-tide", "We were waiting for Maslenitsa!", "Red hill", "Games in the village Pichaevo";

2) Concerts: "Kinds of Tambov folklore", "Merry feast", "Flower of love".

"Ivan-da-Marya" - usually takes part in different Russian folk festivals (Rudolstadt, Germany, 1995), (Midlsboro, England, 1997).

    The theatre made educational films and audiocassettes.
